I have been teaching at Capitol West Academy for six years, two years of 4-year-old kindergarten and going on my fourth year of K5. I am a graduate of the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. When I am not in the classroom teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, traveling to warm climates and shopping.
As an educator I want to be an inspirational teacher who is respected by her students. I would like my students to share their life’s accomplishments with me even after they have left my class. I would like all of my students to work to their full potential and know what that potential is. I would like my students to become positive role models in the both the community and school atmospheres.
I want to further my education by doing a little every year. I would like to become a reading specialist so I am able to further the education of those who have fallen behind. I will continue to work in the classroom and better the lives of those around me and continue to support parents in their educational efforts at home. I plan to help parents to improve their academic support at home by hosting parent resource night once a quarter to communicate what and how we are learning in the classroom and how it can be extended into the home. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your child’s educational experience, and I am excited to work together as a team to make sure your child is getting the best educational experience possible.
Classroom news
The school year is off to a great start, and we are already learning many new things. Our class is working on beginning reading strategies and reviewing our letter sounds. We have been working really hard to set goals for each day and looking at how we did on reaching the goal throughout the day.
In math, we are working on reviewing concepts from last year to get us ready to start the K5 book. Some of the concepts are patterns, color words, writing our numbers, and counting.
This week starts our weekly homework packets. These go home on Monday and are due the following Monday, so please try to do a page each night. In addition to the homework packet, students should be reading or be read to nightly, with this recorded in the back of the Passport.
Please keep an eye out for a reading-strategies night that we will be holding to introduce some of the strategies we are teaching in the classroom and ways you can support these at home. Also, if you have access to a computer, the following websites are great reinforcers of skills learned at school: www.starfall.com and www.raz-kids.com. Please feel free to ask for extra resournces to send home if you would like them.
