I have been teaching at CWA for three years. I am a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. In my free time I enjoy doing any type of activity involving the outdoors, reading books and traveling to see my family.
I am excited for what this school year holds. I can’t wait to teach first grade again. I have worked with some of the students in the first grade already, and I am thrilled to see some new faces. I am working hard to give your child the best educational experience possible in a fun learning environment.
Classroom news
In reading we have started our reading centers. During this time students are able to work collaboratively with other classmates to master their reading skills. We have been working on rhyming words, beginning sounds, sounding out words and reading more fluently. In math we are working on addition strategies such as counting doubles, using a number line to add, counting and doubles plus one. We have just finished our science unit on weather and seasons. We will begin our social studies unit on families, jobs and the community.
Homework: Please set a time aside to work with your children on their homework packet. Please remember to read the two books in their homework folder and add it to their reading log. There will be another sight words assessment during the month of November, so help your child study the sight words flash cards. Your child’s success will earn him or her a free book.
Please remember to read with your child every night. By reading to your child or with your child regularly, he or she will become a more fluent reader. First grade is pivotal in your child’s academic success.
