Annie Collins

Annie CollinsI am excited to be back in the classroom after being a new teacher mentor the past two years. I know I have big shoes to fill as many of our fifth graders have had Ms. Aurelius in the past. I am looking forward to getting to know each and every student and challenging them to do their best. I look forward to “living above the line” with each of my students every day. Students are all working on their individual mission statement. My mission statement is below. Please check back soon for all of our mission statements to be posted.

Ms. Collins Mission Statement

Who am I? I am a positive, optimistic person who looks for the good in all situations. I seek to always “live above the line” in all I do. I am a mother and wife; I enjoy doing all sorts of outdoor activities with my husband and daughter. I am a teacher; I love when my students have those “Aha!” moments. I have high expectations for each student, and I never give up on a student. I am an athlete. I love running, doing triathlons and spending time outdoors.

What do I want? I want to have a positive impact on each student I teach. I want to instill in them the enjoyment of lifelong learning. I want to help every student find their strengths and work with that child to find something in their life they are passionate about. I want students to remember me as the person who never let them give up on themselves. I want to continually learn from others and seek ways to become a better teacher and person.

I want to have a family who enjoys being around each other. I want to instill valuing differences in my daughter and teach her to respect others because of their differences. I want to expose my children to all sorts of adventures and share in those adventures with them. I want to do another marathon and an Olympic distance triathlon competitively someday. I want to continue to value my own health and pass that on to my own children. I am going to be remembered as a person who loved life and tried to bring a smile to everyone I met. I am going to find ways to impact the world around me in positive ways.

How am I going to get there? I will continue to be a positive person who gives my all to my students and my family. I will focus on strengths and be transparent with students about how to find their passions and reach those goals. I will continue to monitor this mission statement and seek out ways to better myself professionally through reading and practice.

Classroom News
Our classroom has been working hard to make adjustments to the high expectations of fifth grade. In math we have been working on place value to the billions and ten thousandths place. In reading we are working on becoming better readers by building our stamina and can currently read for 20 full minutes without any interruptions. We are learning strategies to make us better readers who focus on the four elements of CAFE (comprehension, accuracy, fluency and expand vocabulary). In writing we have been working on completing our individual mission statements and learning about narrowing down our writing topics. In science we have been learning about matter and its physical and chemical properties.
